Building Bangladesh's National Theranostics Capability

MED I is positioned to lead and partner on Bangladesh's move toward domestic theranostics and isotope-production capacity — repatriating the billions Bangladeshi patients currently spend on cancer care abroad.

The opportunity

Bangladeshi patients spend an estimated US$5 billion a year on overseas cancer and specialty care — more than the country’s entire national health budget — with roughly 800,000 patients leaving annually and cancer among the top reasons. Recent visa restrictions in neighboring markets are now stranding many of these patients, closing the traditional escape valve at the exact moment domestic capacity could capture that demand.

Bangladesh is not starting from zero: the country already operates more than 20 nuclear medicine centres, four government PET-CT centres, and an 18-MeV cyclotron for diagnostic isotopes, with therapeutic nuclear medicine dating back to the 1980s. What’s missing is therapeutic-isotope production and radioligand-therapy scale — the gap MED I is positioned to help close.

MED I’s approach

The model is hub-and-spoke and production-backed: a national hub combining cyclotron isotope production, GMP radiopharmacy, and a flagship clinical theranostics centre, distributing finished radiopharmaceuticals to partner hospitals across the country — the same facility-design, cyclotron, synthesis, and quality-control expertise MED I already applies in Thailand, extended to a new market with an even larger unmet need.
